Craig’s Music Through the Years

1970s

In 1973, the band FREEDOM QUEST was formed with Craig Ingraham on lead vocals and guitar, a young 17-year old David Benoit on keyboards, Brian Magness on bass, Elvio Ditta on drums, Sodie Arcia on percussion, Bill Richardson on vocals and violin, Maxxine Sherman on flute, Debora Masterson and Kent Johnson on background vocals.

This video was taken at an outdoor concert in San Diego, a mini-Woodstock ambience indicative of the times. The band recorded seven songs in the studio “My Time Has Come”, “If They Took All my Songs Away”, “Still Tied to the Dock”, “Take a Little Time”, “Take Me Away”, “Calling You My Brother” and “Crutches”. The group disbanded when Craig was arrested for marijuana possession. He spent six months in honor camp. He was set up by one of his roadies.

1980s

Back in LA, after a 7-year stint in Hawaii, Craig found a job at a recording studio and was offered free studio time during the night. He took full advantage of the offer, recording other people’s music during the day, going home to shower, snort some coke, and spend the rest of the night recording at the studio. Songs from this period include “Another Place, Another Time”, “Can’t Stop Now” and “Very Lonely People” featured in the documentary “Above and Beyond: The Story of Cpl. William T. Perkins, Jr. USMC”, the indigenous people’s anthem “White Man’s World”, the psychedelic “Livin’ in the Future”, and pop “Lifeline”.

2000s

In 2000, soulmates Craig and Debora reunited. Back together again after 26 years, they produced the documentary and formed the CRAIG INGRAHAM BAND playing in various SoCal venues.

“Didn’t See It Comin’”, a song with particularly clever lyrics and syncopated three-part harmonies that was written in the 1980s.
